Dora Lee “Abbie” Hatley was reunited with the love of her life on September 4, 2015. She finally caught the bus at the age of 89 years young.
Abbie was born on July 20, 1926 in Elmdale Kansas to Oliver Blakely Harvey and Ruby Adean Stone Harvey.
After graduating high school, she worked at the Herington Air Force Base as a mechanic and sheet metal worker on B-29’s. It was here that she met her future husband Philip Hatley in December of 1944. They were married on April 28, 1946 in Dunlap Kansas. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on January 13, 1961. After their marriage they made their home just outside of Basalt ID. In 1950 they were blessed with their beautiful daughter Ramona Lee Hatley.
Abbie drove school bus for Firth School District for 15 years. She will always be remember for putting on her bright red lipstick and leaving and indelible mark on the cheek of the naughty kids for their mothers to find. She also spent many years working for several area farmers during spud harvest. She started her career as a hand picker and worked up to truck driver.
Abbie was very active in the LDS church, especially in the scouting program. She and Phil prepared countless young men to receive their Eagle Scout. They were also fortunate enough to serve two missions for the church.
Besides her family, her greatest love was genealogy. She spent all of her free time and her son-in-laws inheritance searching for ancestors.
Abbie is survived by her daughter, Ramona (Bert) Taylor of Basalt, her brother William (Min Soon) Harvey of Kapolei HI, her sister Mary Ellen Harvey of Iowa City IA, her dear friend Rosie Ryan also of Iowa City IA, her treasured grandkids, Travis (Melissa) Taylor of Firth, Stephanie (Wade) Jones of Basalt, Shannon (Greg) Cameron of Belgrade MT, Danielle (Jared) Dursteler of Idaho Falls Blake (Stacey) Taylor of Firth and her 13 wonderful great-grandkids who will miss her and her gummie bears dearly.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a brother.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Teton Home Health and Hospice for all they did for her and her family.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at the Basalt Ward Chapel (823 North 625 East). The family will meet with friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 till 7:30 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Wednesday morning from 10:00 till 10:45 A.M. at the church. Interment will be in the Basalt Cemetery.
