Andrew 'Andy' William Butler, 59, of Basalt passed away Monday, July 25, 2016 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Andy was born on May 19, 1957 at Eaton Maternity Home in Shelley, Idaho to Scott Merrill and Ida Maria Butler. He was the sixth of eight children and the baby boy of the family. Andy grew up in Woodville and spent many hours with his siblings playing in the river bottoms, riding motorcycles, and climbing trees, which often resulted in broken arms and legs. He spent countless hours moving pipe for local farmers or on hunting and fishing trips with his family.
Andy went to school in Shelley where he found a passion for woodworking which would turn into a lifetime hobby. He was known for the beautiful furniture and wooden toys he loved to build. He graduated from Shelley High School in 1975. On May 29, 1981 he married Leann Galloway and they had one daughter together, Sara Jane. They were later divorced.
Andy was known for his love of whitewater rafting, reading, camping, and planning fishing trips with his grandsons. He and his daughter spent many summers floating and camping on the Blackfoot River. He loved his family and would often have treats for his nieces and nephews when they came to visit. One thing he looked forward to each year was having his family over to his orchard to harvest apples and plums. Andy worked for many years as a Rad Con Tech for the INL.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, Scott and Ida Butler, and two brothers Gale and Allan Butler. He is survived by his daughter Sara (Jeff) Birch and his five grandchildren Carson, Jonas, Mason, Porter, and Kibri Birch. He is also survived by two brothers Robert (Linda) Butler, Donald Butler, and three sisters Kathleen (Ron) Dees, Beverly (Kirk) Hyndman, and Pamela (Scott) Stone and numerous neices and nephews.
At Andy's request, sevices will be held at his residence 665 East 818 North in Basalt, Idaho. A viewing will take place from 6:00-7:30 Friday evening and 9:00-9:45 Saturday morning. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday morning in Andy's woodshop. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery under the direction of Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley.
