Arlin D. Taylor

Arlin D Taylor, 94, of Firth, Idaho passed away at his home on April 8, 2011 of natural causes.

He was born August 7, 1916 in Basalt, Idaho, to James B. and Luella Davis Taylor.  He was the middle of 5 boys.  After the death of his mother, his father remarried and a sister and the Jorgenson family joined the Taylor family.   He spent the early part of his childhood in Holliday, Utah.   He was raised in Kimball where he enjoyed the life of a farm boy, working on the farm, riding horses, and tending cattle.  He enjoyed escapades with his Kimball friends.  He graduated from Firth High School, where he played and excelled at many sports.

He joined the National Guard and then was conscripted into the army at the beginning of World War II and served for five years in the 41

st 

Calvary Reconnaissance Troop.  He served in the Philippines, Australia, and New Guinea.  He was awarded several medals, including 3 bronze stars. He was always proud of his service for his country.

After returning from the war he married Lorraine Broadhead on August 29, 1945.  Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS temple.  During his life he worked as a laborer for the railroad and Firth Midland Elevator.  He owned and operated a farm in Kimball.  He also enjoyed farming with his brothers-in-law.  He worked at American Potato in Blackfoot for 15 years.

He and Lorraine worked side by side while farming, growing potatoes, wheat and raising livestock.  They had a great garden which they shared with many.  Arlin loved fishing, working outdoors, and spending time with his family.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he held many positions and worked in the German extraction program for several years.

Survivors include his children:  Mary Lou (Robert) Garn of Salt Lake City, Utah; Kathleeen (George) Clarke of Idaho Falls; Kenneth (Sandra) Taylor of Firth; and Koralee (Boyd) Willson of Shelley.

He is survived by 16 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 1 sister, Barbara Malm.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers, Keith, Edward, Leroy, an infant brother, and step brother and sisters, Gene, Alice, Rosella, and Lillian.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday April 12, 2011 at the Kimball Ward Chapel (744 North 600 East) with Bishop Boyd Peterson conducting.  The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7:00 till 8:30 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Tuesday morning from 10:00 till 10:40 at the church.  Burial will be in the Firth Cemetery with military rites by the Bonneville County Veterans Team asssisted by the Idaho Honor Guard.
