Betty M. Harker

August 2, 1939 — December 22, 2007

Betty Mae Harker, 68, of Basalt passed away December 22, 2007 at her home. She was born, the third child to Wayne Clair Harker and Docia Mae Dial on August 2, 1939.

She grew up in Idaho Falls, attending Emerson Elementary, O.E. Bell Jr. High and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1957. Music was a big part of Betty’s life. She was an accomplished pianist and played the oboe in the Jr. & Sr. high school bands.

Her earliest work experiences were ushering and working concessions in the Rio Theater and being a waitress in various food establishments. She then trained to be a secretary and worked at the “site” for a number of years. She finished her employment years working at Ricks College for 31 years. Upon retirement in 2004 she bought her home in Basalt next door to her nephew Dyal Nelson. Dyal and Gina made her an integral part of their family. She enjoyed many outings and activities as part of their family. She has spent her remaining years being “Aunt Betty” to the Basalt Community.

She loved to travel, read mysteries and science fiction and watch movies and television. She loved bright colors, especially teal blue. But most of all she loved her family and was very generous with everyone. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and associating with her.

She is survived by her brothers Dale Wayne (Verla) Harker of Nampa; & Ronald Clair (Joyce) Harker of Osgood and her sister Tess (Marlyn) Nelson of Woodville. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom she claimed as her own. The family expresses thanks to Aspen Home Health & Hospice for their excellent care and support through her illness.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday December 28, 2007 at the Firth Stake Center (823 North 675 East) in Basalt with Bishop Samuel Walker, conducting. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 till 8:30 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Friday morning 9:30 till 10:40 A.M. at the Church.   In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Perpetual Education fund.
