Boyd Vernon Huntsman

Boyd Vernon Huntsman, 84, of Shelley, Idaho, passed away Thursday, October 22, 2009 at his home.

He was born July 8, 1925, in Woodville, Idaho to Vernard and Grace Huntsman. He grew up and attended school through eighth grade in Woodville and graduated from Shelley High School.

Boyd served in the U.S. Navy attending officer training at Colgate and Dartmouth colleges. At the end of World War II, he returned to Woodville and bought the Woodville Grocery store from his father. It was the beginning of his life’s work in the grocery business. After two years he decided to further his education by attending the University of Idaho and graduating with a business degree from the University of Utah.

After graduation, Boyd worked for Continental Oil in Utah where he met his wife HelenDean Karren. They were married April 8, 1953, in the Idaho Falls Temple. In 1955, he opened Boyd’s AG Market in Shelley. He spent the next 44 years in the grocery business in Shelley and enjoyed being a partner with his brother Ivan.

Boyd has been active in community affairs serving as president of Kiwanis and a member of the Shelley School Board and Shelley planning commission. He was an active member of the LDS Church serving in many callings including Councilor in the Shelley 3

ward Bishopric and as a Stake High Councilman.

Boyd and HelenDean enjoyed many activities with their family including fishing, boating, golfing, and traveling. After retiring, Boyd and HelenDean enjoyed their travels and golfing trips to Arizona and California in the winter and Star Valley, Wyoming, in the summer.

Boyd is survived by his wife, HelenDean; 5 children, Scott (Alice), Karren Perry (Jeff), Betty Ann Bitter (Kent), Patricia, Michael (Stephanie); 17 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; brother, Ivan, and sisters, Mildred, Bessie, Karma, Susann, and Linda. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Ryan, and sister, Lorraine.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, October 26

at Shelley South Stake Center, 675 South Milton. The family will visit with friends and family from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, October 25

at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 W Oak St. in Shelley and prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:40 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery.
