Bruce Marion Russell, 82 of Shelley passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on June 7, 2011.
He was born March 30, 1929 in Shelley, Idaho to Marion Cook Russell and Hazel Mitchell Russell (Mellies). He was their only child. He attended school in Shelley and served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He married Betty Jane Gardner of Teton, Idaho on November 26, 1952. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple in May of 1965.
He was employed at The Idaho National Laboratory as a Reactor Auxiliary Operator for 30 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He loved working on automobiles and restoring antique cars. One of his choicest vehicles is his 1948 Dodge Coupe. His favorite pastime was to pick up a soda and cruise the roads of the west. He loved old movies and enjoyed sitting in his favorite old blue recliner wrapped in his fleece blanket. Residents of Shelley will miss him.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a devoted home teacher and recently served in The High Priest Group leadership.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty (Gardner), children, Eric (Doris) Russell of Shelley; Connie (Steve) Sheahan of Hamilton, MT; Neal (Claudia) Russell of Idaho Falls; Richard (Sheri) Russell of Ammon; Natalie (Steve) Wells of Shelley; and John (Chris) Russell of Shelley; 20 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Hazel Russell and one grandson, Jason Russell.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 10 at 11:00 am at the Woodville LDS Chapel with Bishop Gary Dial officiating. A viewing will be held for family and friends at 9:30 am to 10:40 am before the funeral service. Interment will be at the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery with military rites by David B. Bleak Post 93. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley.
