Carla Jean Christensen of Shelley peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father December 21, 2011 at home with family by her side at the age of 82 just 3 days before her 83
rd
birthday. Mom was born Dec 24, 1928 in Idaho Falls, ID to Fred Drewes and Blanche Charlotte Ekstrom.
She was raised in Idaho Falls, graduating from Idaho Falls High School in 1947. April 6
th
1947 she was introduced to Boyd Christensen of Shelley by her friend and future sister in law Connie Winborg. They were married July 2, 1947 at the home of her parents in Idaho Falls. Mom and Dad had been married for 62 years when dad passed away Oct 15
th
2009. On May 28
th
2011 she was sealed to Dad in the Idaho Falls Temple.
They worked together and raised 5 children on their farm north east of Shelley. They worked hard and played hard. Mom was a fantastic fisherman always catching the biggest and the most fish. She enjoyed fishing, camping, snowmobiling, golfing, bowling, shopping and many, many, hours of pinochle. When mom was a young girl she and a group of special friends started a sewing club which later evolved into a pinochle club, a tradition which continued on throughout her life.
In their later years mom and dad enjoyed many winters traveling with friends, sightseeing all over the United States, golfing, flea markets, Mexico and enjoying retirement.
Mom was a very classy lady who loved to laugh and have fun with her family and friends. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grand children unconditionally. We love her and miss her deeply, but we know she is happy where she is….with Dad.
She is survived by her children, Carolyn Jean (John) Peters of Mesquite, NV; Douglas Boyd (Maristella) of Sandy, UT; Steven D (Kim)of Shelley; Renae (Curtis) Biggs of Toquerville, UT; and Linda Kay (David) Thompson of Idaho Falls; 21 grandchildren, 23 great-grand children and a brother, Norman Drewes of Idaho Falls.
She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant daughter Vicky, her brother, Kenneth and sisters, Helen Flitton and Alta Wright.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 till 8:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 till 10:40 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.
