Carolyn Ann (Larson) Lyon, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away April 15, 2018 at The Willows in Blackfoot, Idaho.
Carolyn was born January 22, 1938 in Shelley, Idaho, the first child of John Warland and Lois (Catron) Larson. Carolyn attended school in Wyola, Montana and then Firth, Idaho where she graduated as the valedictorian. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in business education from Idaho State University, graduating as one of the top 5 students.
Carolyn married her high school sweetheart, Wayne E. Lyon, on August 28, 1957 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. The couple made their first home in Logan, Utah while Wayne attended USU. After Wayne’s graduation they moved to Firth, ID, where Carolyn resided until February of this year. Carolyn taught business classes and economics at Blackfoot High School for 30 years. In 1996, she was awarded Economics America teacher of the year for the state of Idaho. She served for 15 years as the state advisor for the Panasonic Academic Conference, a national academic competition. She also served as the president of the Blackfoot Teachers Association.
Carolyn was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings in Young Women, Primary, Sunday School, choir pianist, and as the ward organist for many years. Carolyn used her gift at the piano to bless many lives; playing at funerals and dances, accompanying choirs, and teaching others to play and express themselves through music. She served as an LDS missionary with Wayne for 8 years in the Idaho Falls Family History Center, and she was very active in searching out her own ancestors.
She loved the outdoors and adventure. She has visited all 50 states and several places in Canada and Mexico, enjoyed cruises to the Bahamas, Alaska, and the Panama Canal. She could outpace any teenager at an amusement park and loved to go camping with her family, doing her best to keep up with her fearless husband on the 4-wheeler. She was an avid reader, served on the North Bingham County District Library Board, and was a chocolate connoisseur.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister Lael Fox. She is survived by: daughters Heidi (John) Alsup, Ramona (Danny) Mitchell, Diana (Kent) Sargent, and son Craig Lyon, 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, brothers John Warland Larson, Jr. and Vincent Winn Larson.
