Charles Walter Morby

October 10, 1918 — August 21, 2008

Charles Walter Morby, 89, passed away at the home of his daughter in Firth on August 21, 2008 from complications of Mesephilioma.

He was born October 10, 1918 at Chinawith, Washington, the oldest of two boys born to Henry & Bertha Ayers Morby.

Charles served in the Sea Bees during WWII.  He was an engineer for most of his life, building launch pads for the missiles at Cape Canaveral and designing two of the ten minute man missiles.   He worked in many countries on nuclear plants and at the INEL in the 50’s in Idaho Falls.

He was on the Clatskanie City Council for many years in Clatskanie, Oregon.  He wrote a book on the Little White Salmon area in Washington State.  

On August 3, 1945 he married Belva Marie Jeffs in Idaho Falls.  They had many experiences moving from place to place.  She passed away in 1972.  He married Loretta Wolgamot in 1974.  She passed away in 1988.  They had made their home in Clatskanie, Oregon.

Charles loved to fish.  He was an avid fly fisherman and regularly went deep sea fishing.  He loved to bowl and averaged 196 just last year. 

He moved to Idaho this last year to be close to his daughter Sherrian Crapo and her family.

He loved to collect carnival glass, antique furniture and coins.  

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  

He is survived by his daughter, Sherrian (Gordon) Crapo of Firth; two step daughters, Sharon Wolgamot of South Carolina and Judy Wolgamot of Tucson, Arizona; grandchildren, Kim (Rex) Noreen of Rigby; Kevin Scott (Tarmi) Crapo of Azalea, OR; Kristie Ranae (Ralph) Barnard of Shelley; and Kody Kay (Amber) Crapo of Firth; 16 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, brother, Leroy Morby and step son, Blair Jeffs. 

Burial will be in the Underwood Cemetery in Chinawith, Washington on Monday August 25, 2008.  Local arrangements are under the direction of Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley.
