Cheyenne Lakita Pettingill, 13, of Shelley passed away August 4, 2007 a victim of a tragic and for her fatal automobile accident.
She is the daughter of Troy Shane and Tonya S. Simpson Pettingill. Though she was born while her family lived in Springville, Utah, on December 22, 1993, it was not to be her home for very long as her family moved to Shelley when she was very young and Shelley has been her home ever since.
She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she happily participated in the young women activities of her ward. She attended school in Shelley from the time she started kindergarten and was currently enrolled at Hobbs Middle School where she would have started her eighth grade year when classes resumed this month.
It is customary to write the awards and accomplishments of ones life as part of the obituary. When one’s life ends at age thirteen worldly acclaim does not require much paper to record her accomplishments, which surely would have been many had she been permitted to remain longer.
Cheyenne was loved by all that knew her. She was the girl who is probably recorded in the pages of many diaries as my only friend or the girl that was first to talk to me when I was afraid and new in class or the most fun person to have along at any gathering of friends or the one that was usually happier to support than to lead.
Cheyenne lived life with such enthusiasm. It was a joy for all that knew her to not only be a witness but a recipient as well of her constant out flow of love. It seemed to be her gift.
She is survived by her parents, Troy and Tonya Pettingill, two brothers Bryant age 17, Tate age 16 and one sister Jessica age 14 who at the present time is listed in serious condition at the University of Utah Hospital having been involved in the same automobile accident that took Cheyenne’s life.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 11th at the Shelley South Stake Center (675 South Milton). The family will visit with friends Friday evening August 10th from 7:00 till 8:30 p.m. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Saturday morning 9:00 till 9:45 a.m. at the Church.
