Danny Hillman, 66, of Shelley, Idaho, passed away August 11, 2011 while surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born March 27, 1945 in Shelley, Idaho to Lyle and Viola Hillman and was the fourth of nine children. He learned the value of hard work from his father while working the family farm with his brothers. He attended local schools and graduated from Firth High School in 1963. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda Barton, on August 9, 1963 and recently celebrated 48 years of marriage.
As a provider, he worked various jobs including welding, trucking, cabinetry, and bus driving. He retired as a bus driver from the INL after 27 years service. Danny was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served faithfully in his various callings. He loved the outdoors and participated in many activities including camping, four-wheeling, biking, fishing, back packing, and snowmobiling. He was an avid rock collector and classic car enthusiast. Danny’s greatest joy was spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He had many friends and was known for his mischievous sense of humor, generosity, and willingness to help others.
Danny is survived by his wife, Linda of Shelley, Idaho; seven children- Michael Hillman (Dionne) of Idaho Falls; Lynne Landon (Rene) of Rexburg; David Hillman of Glastonberry, CT; Liza Trent (Kendall) of Firth; Lori Price (Jacob) of Rexburg; Danielle Barnes (Jeremy) of Idaho Falls; and Lindsey Hillman of Shelley; 18 grandchildren; and 1 great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and younger sister, Carrie Hillman.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 15 at the Shelley Stake Center (325 East Locust). The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Nalders Funeral Home in Shelley and again Monday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. at the stake center prior to the service. The dedication of the grave and interment will be at the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.
The family expresses sincere appreciation to the caring staff at Lily and Syringa Care Center and Hands of Hope Hospice.
