Daveen Hill Dye passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb 13, 2022 in the home of her daughter in Firth, Idaho.
Daveen was born on May 2, 1935, the eldest of 8 children born to David Earl Hill and Dora Alviteen Gifford. She was born in Gibson, Idaho, and she spent the first years of her life living with her parents in a tent on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation where her father worked. She grew up in Kimball, Idaho, where she attended the old Kimball elementary school. Daveen attended Firth High school, where she was an excellent student, and participated in band, playing the trombone. In this band room is where she met her eternal companion Stanley Clark Dye.
Daveen and Clark were married and sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on May 20, 1953, just 10 days after she graduated from high school. The next year they welcomed their 1st child, and continued to grow their family to a total of 9 children: 6 sons and 3 daughters. Daveen devoted her life to her children, her husband, and to the Lord, Jesus Christ. She was a ‘stay at home’ mother teaching her children the importance of living a good, honest life. Her children claim her to be ‘The Greatest Mom in the World’’. She was very talented and industrious, and took care to teach her many skills to her children, including gardening, canning/preserving, cooking, cleaning, sewing, mending, quilting, crocheting. Most importantly, she taught us to live a righteous life by living the teachings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Daveen enjoyed organizing and participating in their annual Summer Family vacations. Her love of family included helping her Aunt Peggy with her craft shop, where Daveen’s love of crafting expanded to sewing and creating Christmas and Birthday treasures for her grandchildren. Her gift of sewing also included presenting newly born grandchildren with white Blessing Dresses or little Tuxedos, as well as crocheted white booties.
Daveen touched the lives of so many around her, and was a great example of love and service to all. This service included church positions such as Ward and Stake Relief Society Presidents. Her homemade bread was not only loved at home, but was well-known to friends and neighbors who could smell it baking, and she often freely gave it to others in need. She often made more loaves of bread than she needed so she could send some with her children to take back to their own homes.
Daveen loved family history, and she skillfully captured the family stories in many photo albums that were created by her hands. Through her journaling and story writing, many of her posterity now reap the blessings of her time spent gathering and writing, which she continued until her mind and hands would no longer allow.
She is proceeded in death by her daughter, Kathy, her Parents, her brothers Ralph, Don, David, and Phil, and her sister Ellen.
She is survived by her loving husband, Clark, and her sons: Michael (Barbara), Rodney (Natty), Stanley (Kathy), James (Cynthia), Merlin (Sheri), Ricky (Lisa), and daughters: Cheryl (Tim) Nukala, and Kristi (Troy) Bolinder, along with her sister Rayola and her brother Kent (Tessa). Daveen’s posterity includes 32 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.
