David Elmo Scott, 83, of Orem, Utah and former Shelley resident, passed away April 19, 2020.
He was born May 15, 1936 in Bedford, Indiana to Edith Goodman Scott and Henry Scott. His schooling took place in Bedford, graduating from Shawswick High School. Upon graduating high school, he joined the Navy, serving in Hawaii and Japan. After an honorable discharge, he married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Sue Munn on January 7,1961 in Speedway, Indiana. They were later sealed in the St. George, Utah LDS Temple for time and all eternity. To this union were born three sons and two daughters: Yon Eric, Brian David, Rohy Neill, Amelia Marie and Melissa Sue.
Dave started his formal education at Brigham Young University in 1963, obtaining his teaching degree, while Marilyn worked as a registered nurse. Dave continued with his education, attending BYU and earning two more degrees, a Doctorate in Physical Education, working as a professor of physical education at Prairie View A & M University in Prairie View, Texas. He then went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in nursing at BYU. He was laughingly referred to as a professional student, and he and Marilyn decided it was time to settle down in one place. They moved to Shelley, Idaho to continue raising their family.
He worked at Idaho Falls Consolidated hospitals (later named Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center) as a registered nurse house supervisor from 1978 till 2001, and Marilyn was an RN at the hospital and at a Dialysis Center in Idaho Falls. He earned his pilot license and loved to fly his piper cherokee airplane. He loved to go hunting and fishing and would often take his children.
After their retirement, he and Marilyn served an 18 month mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ohio. Following their mission, they spent their summers in Shelley and wintered in Orem, Utah. Marilyn passed away on September 23, 2010.
On July 31, 2012 he married Irja Alice Carlson Johnson in Orem, Utah. They resided in Orem, Utah during their entire marriage. Dave was an active member of the LDS Church since just prior to his marriage to Marilyn.
He is survived by his wife, and sons: Yon (husband Fred), Brian (wife Linda), Neill (wife Laurie) Daughters Amelia Maass (husband Patrick) and Melissa Gontcharov (husband Alexander), Siblings: Sandra Flake, Thomas Scott, and Howard Scott, with 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 12:00 P.M. Friday, April 24, 2020 at the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery with military rites. You may pay your respects at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak Street) in Shelley Friday from 11:00 to 11:40 A.M. or leave the family a message at nalderfuneralhome.com. Due to Covid-19 the family request’s you sign the register book take a service folder and pass by the casket allowing others to pay their respects. Burial will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.
