David Peter Mackowiak passed away at his Idaho Falls home, surrounded by his family on Nov 7, 2020.
He was born on May 28, 1946 in East Chicago, IN to Benedict H. Mackowiak & Amy Satterblom.
He is survived by his wife Deonne McCracken, to whom he married in Firth, ID on Sep 10, 1971. Together they had seven children: David Scott (Carrie Tobler) Minot, ND, Daniel Preston, Ryan Patrick (Amber Ross) South Jordan, UT, Brady Lee (Sariah Gepford) Firth, Benjamin John (Alicia Wood) Menan, Gwen Marie Martin (Jeremiah) Ammon, Luke Elliott (Janelle Williams) Rigby. He’s survived by 25 grandchildren, his brother Kevin Mackowiak Cedar Lake, IN, his sister-in-law Claudia Mackowiak and nephew Doug Mackowiak, Griffith, IN and his niece Tamura Mershon (Casey) Maryville, TN.
He was preceded in death by his son Daniel, his parents, his brother H. Chris Mackowiak, and his in-laws John and Lenna (Dye) McCracken.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in various callings as an elder and a high priest.
David served in the United States Navy from 1968-1974, achieved the rank of Petty Officer Second Class and spent three years on the nuclear submarine USS Greenling. David received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Idaho at the age of 39 and a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Idaho State University at the age of 60.
Professionally, he held various positions at Idaho National Laboratory and later worked for Walgreens as a pharmacist. His hobbies included reading, target shooting with his sons, and coin collecting as a member of the Eagle Rock Numismatic Society. He held an official timing license in the Sports Car Club of America and enjoyed working the road races at Elkhart Lake, WI.
The family would like to thank the wonderful people at Hands of Hope Hospice. In particular, Lorie, Sharla, Sheila, Amie, and Brianna.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, November 13, 2020 at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 West Oak Street, Shelley. The family will receive friends Friday morning from 9:00 till 10:40 A.M. at the funeral home. Interment in the Firth Cemetery with military rites.
The funeral service will be streamed live on the Nalder Funeral Home Facebook page for those wishing to watch it remotely.
