Deetta Gail Christensen

DeEtta Gail Jensen Christensen died after a long battle with cancer on May 16, 2006, under hospice care at home in Shelley, Idaho.

The fourth of six children, she was born August 27, 1939, in Mackay, Idaho, to Glen Andrew Jensen and Phoebe Richeson.

She grew up in Pocatello and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1957. On October 30, 1959, she married Ronald M. Christensen in the Idaho Falls L.D.S. Temple. She helped put her husband through college by working at a fabric store.

They returned to Idaho after her husband's military service in 1978 and settled in Shelley. She was famous for her hand-sewn quilts and clothing.

She worked at Pillsbury for eleven years, Coast to Coast store, and Kings.

Active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served as Ward Young Womens president, Primary president, and Relief Society president. She served in the Stake Primary and Stake Relief Society presidency. She was an active Cub Scout leader and New Scout leader and was awarded the District Award of Merit. She was an officiator in the Idaho Falls L.D.S. temple.

Survivors include her husband of forty six years, three sons: Michael J (Annette) Christensen, Sandy, Utah, Paul J. Christensen, San Francisco, Calif, and Joseph J. Christensen, Sandy, Utah; three sisters: Eva (Gary) Fanning, Chehalis, Wash, Shirley (Clair) Birch, Spokane, Wash, and Naomi (Russell) McGovern, Logan, Utah; three sisters-in-law: Sonja Scott, Modesto, Calif, Gloria (Robert) Collins, Las Vegas, Nevada, Ranae Miller, Pocatello, Idaho, one brother-in-law: Orvid (LeeAnn) Christensen, Rigby, Idaho, and five grandchildren.

She was preceeded in death by her parents, a sister, Elsie Birch, and a brother, Clarence Jensen.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 20th in the Shelley Stake Center, (325 East Locust) with Bishop Barry Hanson conducting.

Friends may call Friday evening at Nalder Funeral Home (110 W Oak) 7:00 till 8:30pm and Saturday morning 9:30 to 10:30am at the church. Internment will be in the Preston City Cemetery.
