Devin John Deede

January 21, 1999 — May 31, 2021

With sadness we announce the passing of Devin John Deede, our loving son, brother, grandson and friend to all whose lives he touched, on May 31, 2021.

Born January 21, 1999, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, Devin was our ray of sunshine. He brought happiness and love into everyone’s life. At a very young age, Devin was diagnosed with Autism. Although his diagnosis was cause for concern for some people, Devin did not use it as a sign of weakness or let himself be a victim of the circumstances. Devin received many services throughout his life such as Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy and worked with many therapists and companies. Devin attended Special Education classes through School District 91, receiving his diploma at the age of 21. Although slow to earn his trust and friendship, eventually each and every teacher, therapist or service provider would express their admiration for Devin and his uncanny ability to make everyone smile. There was not a time that passed in which we did not hear that “Devin is one of my favorites”.

Devin was surrounded by many people in many different facets of his life, but one thing was a consistent: His goofy smile, his beautiful blue eyes and his larger than live laugh helped with his ability to change anyone’s mood from bad to good in the blink of an eye.

Devin was a simple man that had love for many things. He loved his food, sports and people. At any given time, you could find Devin with crackers or pretty much any snack in his hands. As most know, his favorite treat was Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. He never could turn one (or three) down. When someone would give one to him, he would be so excited he would hold it until it melted in his hands. If you were someone special to him, he would occasionally share with you, but you had to be someone special!

Devin was an avid sports fan who was lucky enough to have a personal connection with his favorite players, his siblings and their teammates. He loved to go to the different sporting events, such as soccer, track and hockey, but it was known to all that his favorite was hockey! He would sit and watch every event and would be the loudest one cheering, no matter who scored – Devin’s team or the opposing team, someone did something great so he would cheer. Devin’s brother and two sisters all played hockey for Idaho Falls Youth Hockey Association. Thanks to this amazing hockey program, Devin was able to meet some of his best friends, from the players, to the coaches and the parents, and not even from the same division the siblings were playing on, but everyone within the association. This community took him in and made him one of their own. Josh and Mel never worried about his safety when at the rink because he was always with someone who loved him and enjoyed spending time with him.

Devin had a very strong bond with his grandparents as well. He looked forward to his visits in the basement and his drives in the truck with Grandpa Bruce. His trips to and from Grandma Carolyn’s were all he would talk about for weeks on end. He loved visiting and spending time at Grandma Nea’s house. He would not leave the church after service on Sunday until Opa had played his last note and put his guitar away!

He had his special routines with people which will be missed. His completely random phone calls to the various people just because he wanted to hear their voice, the regular trips to the coffee shop to sit around and solve the world’s problems, his supervision of the mechanical work taking place on the motorcycles, or the silent observation of the group suddenly broken by his enormously infectious laugh! He was touched by so many and he loved so many more!

Devin’s loss will be mourned by all who were fortunate enough to be blessed by knowing him. He is survived by his parents, Josh and Melanie Deede, his brother and fiancé Deric Deede and Megan Poling (Salt Lake City), his twin sisters Mariah and Katrina Deede (Shelley), his Grandpa Bruce Meyer (Shelley), his Grandma Carolyn Meyer (Grangeville), his Grandma Lenea and Opa Hans Deede (Shelley), as well as his many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Devin was truly blessed with great friends and an amazing support system, too many to mention. The family wants to personally thank the incredible support system that many families provided over the past 20+ years. It takes a village and Devin was blessed to have you in his village.

Friends and family are welcomed to join in Devin’s memory for an evening viewing Monday June 7th from 6:00pm-7:30pm at Nalder Funeral Home, located at 110 W Oak Street in Shelley. There will be a pre-service viewing on Tuesday June 8th from 12:00pm-1:30pm at St. John Lutheran Church, located at 290 E 7th St in Idaho Falls.
