Donald Douglas “Donny” Pope, 75, of Marbleton, Wyoming passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at his son’s home in Shelley, Idaho Friday February 7, 2014.

Donny was born February 18, 1938 in Rupert, ID to William and Edna Whitman Pope. He attended school in Big Piney and graduated from Big Piney High School. After high school he worked around the Big Piney area before joining the U.S. Army in 1961. After returning home from the Army he married his sweetheart Maisie Sarles on November 11, 1967 in Jackson, Wyoming.

He also began his career working for Butane Power & Light which eventually became Van Gas; leaving there in 1984 he began working for the Town of Big Piney until his retirement. Donny was an active person, he liked to hunt and fish. He loved the sport of horseshoes and was a member of the National Horse Shoe Pitchers Association. He was a volunteer fireman with the Big Piney-Marbleton Fire Dept. from 1966-2007. He was one of the first certified E.M.T.’s in the state of Wyoming and he taught numerous E.M.T. classes in the Big Piney Area. Donny trained with a passion to help others; his dedication to the E.M.S. took hold of his whole family. His wife Maisie and two sons Nelson and Brent all became E.M.T.s. Brent took this training to the next level and became an Independent Duty Corpsman in the U.S. Navy where he currently serves.

Donny is survived by his wife Maisie, sons Nelson (Lisa) Pope of Shelley, ID; Brent (Tara) Pope of Port Orchard, WA; sister Andrea (Tom) Brown of Big Piney, WY; grandchildren Tomina, Madison and Ryan Pope and great-grandson Taton Lacore. He is preceded in death by his parents William Pope and Edna Pope Hoagland; Step-Father Pete Hoagland and sister Neva Williams.

A funeral service will be held Saturday February 15th at 11:00 A.M. at the Big Piney L.D.S. Church. A viewing will begin one hour prior to the service. Military honors and interment will follow the services in the Plainview, Wyoming Cemetery.
