Douglas A. Long

April 28, 1962 — November 9, 2023

Douglas Allen Long of Firth Idaho, born on April 28, 1962 to Bill and Marie Long of Shelley Idaho passed away unexpectedly on Thursday November 9th, 2023.

Growing up in the small town of Shelley , Idaho, Doug enjoyed the usual rural town activities including sports, outdoors, moving pipe and the typical mischief.  He attended Firth High School before joining the United States Marine Corp where he valiantly served over seas in Beirut. Upon returning to the states, he married Amy Wood and started his family raising two wonderful daughters, Heather and Megan, who both molded Doug into the caring father and man that he was. Doug was so proud of his daughters and everything that they have accomplished  including their devotion to their families. Doug loved his family fiercely and spoke to his parents and sister daily.

Doug will forever be remembered for his incredibly kind heart - he would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need and treated everyone like family. He was a patient teacher and loved sharing his passions, whether hunting, fishing,  rock-hounding, or any of his many other hobbies. Doug also found great pleasure in taking his 2 dogs, Shadow and Bella, to the river to play while he and his partner Cori fished. He is leaving a lasting legacy of love and compassion that will be sorely missed.

Doug is survived by his two daughters Heather King and husband David, Megan Kennedy and husband Chris, his three grandchildren Christian , Jaelyn, and Easton, his parents Bill and Marie Long, his sister Allison Moss and her husband Doug, his two nephews Ian and Matthew, and his partner Cori Williams. He was proceeded in death by his grandparents Chris and Margurite Long and Herbert and Maxine Russell.

Memorial services will be held at a later time, yet to be determined.  Arrangements are under the direction of Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley.

In lieu of flowers please donate to the Idaho State Veterans Home, 1957 Alvin Ricken Drive, Pocatello, Idaho  83201.
