Doyle Andrew Rumsey

June 3, 1941 — January 9, 2025

Doyle Andrew Rumsey, beloved husband, father and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 9, 2025 at the age of 83.

Born on June 3, 1941, to George Blaine Rumsey and Fern Marian Andrew. He spent his early childhood in Kilgore Idaho and later moved to Woodville where his father built their family home.

Doyle graduated from Shelley High School in 1959, he then went on to play football at Ricks college and serve an LDS mission in southern California. Upon returning he graduated from BYU and later received his Masters Degree in Science and Safety Technology from Central Missouri University.

Doyle married the love of his life, Marcia Ann Hilterbrand on September 18,1964 in the Idaho Falls LDS temple and together as best friends and devoted companions they raised 6 sons, recently celebrating their 60th anniversary.

Doyle was a dairy farmer that had a deep connection to his land and together with Marcia, lived and raised their children. He loved farming, tinkering in his shop, tending his animals and working with his boys, instilling in them his "make it work" attitude. Doyle was a jack of all trades, a man of projects who was creative and skilled in working with his hands. He had a love for woodworking and masterfully created beautiful heirloom pieces of furniture some of which are lovingly displayed in his home today. One of his proudest accomplishments was moving a large historic barn to his farm where he spent countless hours restoring it, creating a cherished family gathering place.

At a young age, Doyle saved for several years and bought a 1963 Chevy Impala, to him it represented hard work and sacrifice and was a source of joy and happiness. He had a lifetime love for music and enjoyed singing hymns and playing gospel music on the organ. Doyle served his community in many ways throughout his lifetime, one of which being secretary of the Woodville Canal company for 49 years.

He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with a devout testimony and love for his Savior, Jesus Christ. He humbly served in many capacities and callings throughout his lifetime in the church, including bishop and high councilman for many years. In retirement, he and Marcia served an 8 year mission working for the church's Addiction Recovery Program where many people benefited from their love and counsel. Doyle was gentle and soft spoken and will be remembered for his honest nature and fair dealings with others. He will be dearly missed but his legacy of love, commitment to family and service to others will always be remembered by everyone who knew and loved him. Thank you Grandpa for your profound influence in our life.
