F. Calvin Dye

F. Calvin Dye, 70, of Firth left this life peacefully on June 23, 2006 at his home with his wife by his side. He was diagnosed with cancer while serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with his wife in New York, New York So.  2 ½ years ago. He loved God, his country and his fellow men and served them all faithfully.  

He was born to honorable parents, Malden William Dye and Ruth Annie Christenson on October 15, 1935 in Firth, Idaho.

He served as FFA President and Student Body President of Firth High School and was the class Salutatorian.  

Calvin married his sweetie, Marilyn Peterson in the Idaho Falls Temple, August 31, 1957. He graduated from Utah State University in Electrical Engineering and was President of the Engineering Fraternity. He worked for the (Atomics International) later the INEL for over 35 years as an electrical engineer.  They lived in Wapello, Moreland, Rigby, Rexburg, and Lewisville, before returning to his birthplace in Firth.  

As an active member in his church, Calvin served in numerous positions and provided leadership as a bishop and counselor in the Firth Stake Presidency. After working in the scouting program for over 35 years, he was honored as a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, Scouter of the Year and was inducted into the Scouting Hall of Fame. He enjoyed being a Wood Badge leader and believed in the values and skills it taught.  

He traveled to Alaska, Hawaii, Scotland, China, Hong Kong, London, Canada, Mexico and most all of the other continental states. He said that “wasn’t bad for a young farm boy from Firth.”

All of his 7 children and their spouses served missions for their church throughout the world.  

Calvin loved to garden, mow his lawn, and tend to his orchard which boasts 26 varieties of fruit trees. His life was filled with service to others including using his tractor to plow out his neighbors in the winter. He will be remembered for his stories and his sense of humor.  

He will be missed by his seven children and 12 grandchildren. Lori Dye of Terreton; Neil Dye of Kwajalein Islands, Deanne Dye of Firth; Kimberly (Jim) Wong of American Fork, UT; Alan Dye(Thomas) of San Francisco, CA; Amy (Jared) Brazier of Logan, UT; and Paul (Virginia) Dye of Rexburg. He is survived by his siblings Maynard (Helen) Dye of Las Vegas, NV; Lemoyne (Forrest) Stringham of Santaquin, UT; Loraine (John) Chapman of Firth, and Ruel (Carla) Dye of Firth.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Lenna.  

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wed. June 28, 2006 at the Firth Stake Center (133 So. Main) in Basalt with Bishop Todd Williams conducting. Friends may visit with the family Tues. June 27th in the evening at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. and before the service Wed. at 9:30-10:40 a.m. at the church. His body will be laid to rest on the land his grandfather donated to be the Firth Cemetery over 100 years ago.   

Calvin Dye lived a life that is an honor to his name and left an example to all the lives he touched. The family expresses heart-felt gratitude for all the kindness that has been extended to them.
