Garth Alford Russell,88, of Shelley passed away March 14,2018 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.
Garth was born May 29,1929 in Lewisville, Idaho to William Alford Russell and Lettie Laurena Collings. Garth was the oldest son of 9 siblings.
Garth served in the United States Navy from 1948-1950 as a Medic and in the United States Air Force from 1951-1953 as an Airplane Mechanic with an honorable discharge from both branches.
Garth Married the Love of his life, Ramona Elsie Bateman on May 30, 1971 in Elko, Nevada. To this union was born Kurt Garth Russell. On April 12,1985 Garth & Ramona were sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
Garth worked for the City of Shelley as maintenance worker/Dog Catcher, and was also on the City Fire Department and later on became the Fire Chief for the Shelley Firth Fire District.
Garth enjoyed spending time with family and friends, Golfing, Fishing, Camping, Hunting and wood working.
Garth is survived by his Daughter Rose Marie (Roy) Chriswell, Mariposa California; Kurt Garth (Jessica) Russell, Shelley,Idaho; Sister Guelda (Joe) Gates, St George, Utah; Brother Merrill Russell, St George, Utah; Brother Vernon (Martha) Russell, St Anthony, Idaho; Brother David Russell, Shelley, Idaho; Sister Ina Jean Chandler, St George, Utah; Granddaughter Cherese (Mitch) Fifield, Winnemucca, Nevada ; Grandson Wyatt Russell & Granddaughter Kayrie Russell, Idaho Falls, Idaho. 3 great grandchildren as well as many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wife Ramona, Sisters Drusilla Homer, Delpha Oster, Kathy Leavitt, Brother in-laws Earl Homer & Stanley Chandler, Sister In-law Peggy Russell & Granddaughter Olivia Marie Russell.
Kurt & Jessica Russell would like to thank Teton Post Acute Care & Rehabilitation for the love, compassion and Care they provided Garth.
Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, March 22, 2018 at the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery with Military Rites by the David B. Bleak Post #93. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley.
