Gary LeRoy Wade peacefully passed away with his loving wife by his side on June 29 at the age of 74 after a stroke and long struggle with cancer.
Gary LeRoy Wade was born in Los Angeles, California on October 15, 1943 to Albert Lee Wade and Ardath Nadine Dickson. He has 2 siblings – his fraternal twin Larry Cornell Wade and Albert Wade (better known as Rusty).
Gary was raised in Los Angeles, California. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a teenager and served as a missionary in the South West Indian Mission.
Following Gary’s mission, he attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He met his
sweetheart, Phyllis Fielding, in the Summer of 1965 and married her almost a year later on June 3, 1966 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Gary obtained a bachelor’s degree at BYU and a Master’s degree in Social Work at the
University of Utah.
He cared deeply about the welfare of others and devoted his life’s work to defending children and families. He worked with abused children early in his career, provided counseling services to those struggling in the State Mental Hospital of Blackfoot Idaho for 18 years, and later in his career opened a counseling center in South-eastern Idaho to provide services to local families in need.
Gary loved to read, loved animals, loved counseling families, loved his country, and loved
camping and fishing. He also loved to read the scriptures, to teach, and to share his testimony of the Savior. His greatest love was the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Gary is survived by his loving wife Phyllis, his three children, Wendy Wade Leslie, David Gary
Wade, and Matthew Fielding Wade, and 9 grandchildren.
