Gary L. Walton

Gary was born November 25, 1943 to Wendell and Sarah Walton in Montpelier Idaho. He was the middle child of 3 rambunctious boys. His family lived in Montpelier for several years then moved to Ammon, Idaho when he was a teenager. Gary, his brothers, and friends had many adventures in Ammon and the surrounding areas. He graduated from Bonneville High School and then went on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to South America, Peru.

After his mission he came home and attended Idaho State University where he earned a Bachelor's degree. He later went back for his Masters degree. He knew Marsha Ann Thompson in school and convinced her to marry him in the Idaho Falls Temple on May 12, 1967. Gary and Marsha had 10 years of adventures before welcoming their son Ryan to their family in May of 1977. Three years later they welcomed Holly in April of 1980.

Gary worked for many years at Valley Bank and also for The Bank of Commerce. He later tried his hand at sales and was very successful, since he could talk anyone’s ear off. 

Gary was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, fishing and going on camping trips with family…to fish!

Gary led a life filled with love for his family and friends who then became family. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and give of his time and knowledge. 

He is survived by his sweetheart, Marsha Walton, his son, Ryan (Natalie) Walton, four grandchildren, Mackenzie(Zach) Crawford, Noah(Akalia) Walton, Rylie Walton, and Delanie Walton. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wendell S. and Sarah Duke Walton and two brothers, Bruce and Paul, and his daughter, Holly Ann Walton.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 20, 2024 at the Taylor Third Ward Chapel, 1101 E 1250 N, Shelley, Idaho. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 till 7:30 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 West Oak Street, Shelley and Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. till 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery.
