Gerald A. Hansen, 86, of Presto passed away December 17, 2012 at his home under hospice care.
He was born June 22, 1926 at Presto, Idaho to George D and Isabella Henrietta Teeples Hansen. He graduated from Firth High School where he played basketball.
On December 13, 1944 he married Ramona M Hebdon at Presto, Idaho. She preceded him in death in 1996. On May 29, 1999 he married Betty Jean Ball at Rigby, Idaho.
Gerald served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He was a rancher and farmer all his life and loved his ranch at Meadow Creek. He was a member of Eastern Idaho Grazing Association and Snake River Irrigation District Board.
Gerald learned to fish after his marriage to Betty and raised a very large garden which he shared with all his family, friends, and neighbors. His favorite job was that of grandfather to his many kids.
He traveled to Hawaii with the water board and also traveled to New York, Nauvoo, and Branson which he loved. But most of all he enjoyed the cattle drives each and every year and fencing in the mountains with his sons and wives.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he held many callings, his favorite was Ward Clerk.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Hansen of Presto; children, Vickey Ann (Lynn) Wise of Burbank, WA; Kent (Cheryl) Hansen of Shelley; Valerie May (Jim) Shaw of St. Joseph, MI; Sally Ramona (Jerry) Barnes of Paulsbo, WA; Rebecca Jo (Steven) Potter of Greely, CO; Carl David (Lisa) Hansen of Idaho Falls; stepsons, Blaine A (Barbara) Ball, Brad Lee (Susan) Ball, and Ben E Ball all of Idaho Falls; 31 grandchildren and 76 great grandchildren, sisters, Verna Johnson and Ruby Hanft.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Ramona, one son, Curtis A Hansen, brothers, Lorin Hansen and Carl Hansen and one great granddaughter, Jamie Mae Barnes.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the Presto Ward Chapel, 792 N 1090 E in Goshen with Bishop Boe Reynolds conducting. The family will visit with friends Wednesday evening from 7:00 till 8:30 p.m. at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 W Oak Street in Shelley and Thursday morning from 9:30 to 10:40 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at the Goshen Cemetery with military rites by David B. Bleak Post 93 assisted by the Idaho Honor Guard.
