Grant Robinson Allred

Grant Robinson Allred, 91, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Turtle and Crane Assisted Living Center in Idaho Falls of age related causes

.

Grant was born in Tooele, Utah, to Juston Peter Allred and Isabell Robinson Allred.

He was the oldest of nine children.

When he was eight years old, his family moved to Osgood, Idaho where he lived and farmed until going into the service.

While attending school at Ammon High School, he met and courted Sarah Crook.

They were married January 23, 1941, in the Salt Lake Temple and were blessed with seven children.

They were married for 65 years before Sarah passed away in March, 2006.

Grant was drafted in 1944.

He served in the Navy through the end of the war in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1946.

At that time he and Sarah bought a small house in Idaho Falls. They outgrew that house and moved to a big house in Shelley. He raised a big garden every year, and he kept it and his yard immaculate.

He was a very hard worker throughout his whole life.

After the war, Grant worked at several different jobs, and in 1954 he went to work for Phillips Petroleum Co. on the Arco desert.

He worked as a Health Physics Technician and Supervisor and retired in 1986 after 32 years of long bus rides.

Grant held many callings over the years in the LDS church including clerk and counselor in several bishoprics, high council, and several stake jobs as well as dedicated home teacher.

In 1985, as a senior citizen, he was called to be the bishop of the Shelley 8

th

Ward.

After being released, he and Sarah served a mission at the Genealogy Library in Salt Lake City.

They also worked at the Family History Library and served as temple workers for many years.

Grant had a good singing voice and liked to sing.

He was an avid reader, an excellent swimmer, and a good dancer.

He was known for his honesty and integrity.

Grant is survived by five children:

Karen (Edwin) Daw, Janis (Steve) Porter, Val (Susan) Allred, Nyla (Steve) Aitken, and Delwin (Jill) Allred; daughter-in-law Harriet Allred; brothers Gale (Joan) Allred and Mark (Julie) Allred; 31 grandchildren, 85 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah; sons Lane and Doyle; his parents; one granddaughter; sisters Iola Carpenter, Norma Shaw, Verena Willard, and Dorene; brothers Alton and Blaine.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013, at the Shelley Stake Center (325 E. Locust).

The family will receive Friday evening from 6:00 till 8:00 p.m. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 W Oak) in Shelley and Saturday morning at the church from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Grant Cemetery with military rites by David Bleak Post #93 assisted by the Idaho Honor Guard.
