Grantley "Sonny" H. Collet

April 26, 1923 — February 16, 2011

Grantley H. “Sonny” Collet, 86, passed away February 16, 2011 at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Pocatello.

He was born April 26, 1924 to Grantley S. Sr. and Ardella Wright Collet in Idaho Falls.  He spent his early years in Utah with his mother and grandparents.  He returned to live with his dad in Idaho as a teenager.

In 1941 he joined the United States Marine Corps and served in the South Pacific.  He was in the service till 1945 and was awarded the Bronze Star for valor.  During his tour in the South Pacific he contracted Malaria which affected his health the rest of his life.

After serving in the Marine Corps he began a life long career as an Iron Worker having worked on the old river bridge crossing in Firth.

He married Ileana Griffith.  They were later divorced.  There were no children.  He lived and worked in various places in Idaho and California.  He has spent the last 6½ years in the Idaho State Veterans Home in Pocatello.

Sonny is survived by his brother, John (Clydene) Collet of Firth; two nephews, Doug and Don and one niece, Denise.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Sam Collet, and one nephew, David Collet.

Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday February 18, 2011 at the Riverview Cemetery in Firth under the direction of Nalder Funeral Home.  Military rites will be performed by David B. Bleak Post 93 assisted by the Idaho Honor Guard.
