Heward Golden Madsen (94), passed away peacefully Monday, March 05, 2018, at his home in Firth, Idaho.
Heward was born on September 16, 1923 in Goshen, Idaho to Enoch Martines Madsen and Eliza Elizabeth (Heward) Madsen. He was the youngest son of three boys in a family of 11. He grew up helping on the family farm and at the age of 18 his father passed away and he was left with the responsibility of running the family farm while completing his senior year in high school.
He was married in the Salt Lake Temple to Dorothy Jean Charlesworth on December 10, 1943. In January 1945 he was drafted into the United States Army and served as a bugler until he was discharged in August of 1946. Upon his discharge from the army, he continued to run the family farm until purchasing a larger farm near Basalt.
Throughout his life he served in numerous church callings and loved working in the scouting program at which time he obtained his eagle scout.
Heward is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his children, Larry (Linda), Springville, Utah; Lynn (Marcene), Afton, Wyoming; Jackie (Chris), Murray, Utah; Jay (Dolores), Firth, Idaho; and Robert K. (Pamela), Afton, Wyoming; as well as 23 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Patty Jean, his father, mother, three brothers and seven sisters.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Firth Stake Center (823 N 675 E) in Basalt. The family will meet with friends Friday evening from 6:00 till 7:30 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) Shelley and Saturday from 11:30 A.M. till 12:40 P.M. at the church. Burial will be in the Goshen Cemetery with military rites by David B. Bleak Post 93 assisted by the Idaho Honor Guard.
