James Dale Jones, 78, of Shelley passed away January 14, 2013 at Peak Village in Idaho Falls due to complications from esophageal cancer.
He was born September 8, 1934 in Beloit, Kansas, the second of nine children to Armel Jones and Helen Schaffer.
Jim spent his younger years working for Beech Aircraft until he joined the US Marine Corp. He took the GED test and passed serving his time in Korea from March 1954 to March of 1957 as a combat engineer.
He married Vera Klinner December 24, 1966 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He then started working for Howard Hughes Aircraft in Culver City, California as a buyer of diamonds for the U.S. space crafts. In 1978, he bought his first service station in Escondido, California. In 1986 he purchased and operated Jim’s 66 Service Station in Shelley until he retired in 1999. His retirement included traveling in his motor home and spending time with his family. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus #1663.
He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing and golfing.
He is survived by his wife, Vera Jones of Shelley; a daughter, Teresa Ohman of Sterling; 7 grandchildren and two daughters from a previous marriage, Hollie Jones Tolgo and Cammy Jones of Las Vegas, Nevada. He is also survived by four sisters, Mary Milender of Shelley; Ruth (Norman) Coggins of Big Timber, Montana; Janet (Roy) Amerson of Sandersville, Georgia; and Judy Jones of Salina, Kansas. Three brothers Vern (Diane) Jones of Rock Springs, Wyoming; Gary (Vicki) Jones of Derby, Kansas; and Jerry (Rita) Jones of Concordia, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Daniel.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 21, 2013 at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley. The family will visit with friends Monday morning from 9:30 till 10:40 A.M. at the funeral home. Military rites will be preformed by the David B. Bleak Post 93 of Shelley.
