Our beloved Husband, Father, Brother, Oupa and Oupatjie, Jan Nel, passed away on Monday, August 10th from complications related to cancer. He died peacefully at his home in Firth, Idaho.
Jan was born on April 13, 1942 in Gwelo, Southern Rhodesia. He was married to his Eternal Sweetheart, Johanna Magdaleena Fourie, on September 11th, 1965 and sealed for time and all eternity on December 20th, 1983 in the Salt Lake City Temple. At this time he was also sealed to his oldest daughter, Bernadine (Gary) Cook, son, Jan Nel, and youngest daughter, Belinda (Dan) Govatos.
He attended school in Africa and England, graduating in 1963 with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
He immigrated to the US from South Africa in 1991, and has lived in South Eastern Idaho since that time, working as an Electrical Engineer.
Jan dedicated his life to service of others, and served in many areas in the Church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints, including as a Branch President and Bishop for 9 nine years.
He is survived by his wife, children, 38 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
As a family we would like to thank Doctor David Liljenquist and Alliance Home Health and Hospice for their unending love and support during this difficult time. They have truly been Angels of Mercy. Also, we would like to acknowledge the love, comfort and tender mercies we have received from Our Father in Heaven and Savior Jesus Christ.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 13, 2015 at the Firth Ward Chapel (744 North 600 East). The family will meet with friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 till 8:00 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Thursday morning from 9:30 till 10:40 A.M. at the church Burial will be in the Firth Cemetery.
