Janeel Mellies Wheeler, our beautiful and dear wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully on Monday, January 8, 2018 in the comfort of her home surrounded by loved ones from complications due to Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia.
She was born February 7, 1939, the oldest of six children born to Woodrow Wilson Mellies and Vivian Pack Mellies in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Her life was filled with music and many talents with the most coveted one being her piano playing, beginning at the age of 3 she was known as a young prodigy.
She spent her youth in Shelley, Idaho graduating from Shelley High School in 1957. Soon after is when she met her eternal companion and love of her life, Gene, and together became the loving parents to five children.
For ten years she played in the Marvin Nielsen Band and then worked for several years as an aide on the special needs bus with the Shelley school district. She had a love of gardening, cooking, and sewing and was sought out specifically to play the piano or organ for many performances. She supported her children and adored her grandchildren who kept her busy traveling out of state to every type of sporting event and activity they were involved in.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and her life was filled with years of service holding many church callings, including serving a mission in the Baltimore, MD area with her husband, along with serving in the Idaho Falls temple and at BYU Idaho. She shared her love and talent of music by serving as the ward organist for several years. She touched the hearts of many and had a lasting influence on her family and friends through gifts of music and song.
Janeel was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow and Vivian Mellies; sister, Yvonne Dial and brother, Paul Mellies.
She is survived by her two sisters, Enid Oswald, Cindy Chandler and brother Gregg Mellies, along with her husband of 54 years Gene and her five children; son, Tawn (Doreen) Wheeler; daughter, Lauri (Sone) Aloi; daughter, Michelle (John) Grover; son, Trent (Angie) Wheeler; daughter, Trenna (Jason) Farr, including 26 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the Woodville Second Ward Chapel (1555 N 700 E) Shelley. The family will receive family and friends Friday evening from 6:00 till 8:00 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Saturday from 10:00 till 10:40 A.M. at the church. Burial will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.
