Joyce Ricks Mickelsen, 83, of Shelley, Idaho passed away October 25, 2016 at The Willows Memory Care Unit under the care of Encompass Hospice Care.
She was born August 6, 1933 in Moody Creek, Idaho to Earl Edwin Ricks and Sarah Theora Valentine. Joyce was the eighth of ten children. She had seven brothers and two sisters. Joyce grew up in Teton City, Idaho and attended Sugar Salem High School.
After high school she graduated from Ricks College as an LPN where she worked at Madison Memorial Hospital in labor and delivery.
Joyce married C. Dean Mickelsen February 5, 1955 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. They had 4 children: Lucinda Shipley (Gerald), Rudy (deceased), Joy Lyne, and Chris (Celeste). She has 13 grandchildren and 19 great great children.
Joyce enjoyed being a mother and homemaker. To earn extra money she would work cutting potatoes, weighing sugar beets, and delivering phone books. Joyce was very compassionate and helped nurse many friends and family back to health or in their time of need. She liked to sew, make crafts, make Christmas candy, canning, gardening, and serving in the temple. Joyce served in many callings and capacities in The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints.
She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, one sister, a son, and her husband.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Shelley South Stake Center, 675 South Milton Street. The family will receive friends Friday, November 4th from 6:00 till 7:30 p.m. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Saturday morning from 10:00 till 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.
