Julia Roper Gulbransen

December 23, 1914 — June 29, 2011

Julia Roper Gulbransen, 96, formerly of Shelley passed away June 29, 2011 at Turtle and Crane Assisted Living in Idaho Falls.

She was born December 23, 1914 in Winder, Idaho to Orrin and Pearlin Bergetta Taylor Roper.  She was the third of nine children and attended schools in Thatcher, Idaho.  She graduated Valedictorian at Central High School in 1933.  She had a keen mind and always amazed her family with the details from her childhood she could remember.

On December 1, 1936 she married William Elmer Gulbransen in the Salt Lake City Temple.  She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

She was still mowing her own lawn in the summer into her early nineties and walked on her treadmill for 30 minutes every morning.  Her hobbies were crocheting, quilt making, working word puzzles, and working in her flower garden and vegetable garden.  She enjoyed many years of camping, fishing, and visiting with friends.  She loved spending time with her family.  She especially enjoyed going to the Shelley Senior Citizen’s Center for lunches and dancing.

Julia is survived by two sons, Dahl (Marilyn) Gulbransen of Federal Way, Washington and Dan (Mary Beth) Gulbransen of Idaho Falls; one daughter, Caralee Gregston of Rigby; two sisters, Della Eddington of Morgan, Utah and Zelda Moser of Blackfoot; one sister-in-law, Donna Roper of Logan, Utah; 13 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren plus two on the way.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and three sisters.

The family expresses a special thanks to Hands of Hope Hospice and the staff of Turtle and Crane Assisted Living Center for the way they cared for their mom and grandma.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday July 5, 2011 at the Shelley First Ward Chapel (184 North Park Ave.). The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 till 7:30 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Tuesday from 9:30 till 10:45 A.M. before the services at the church.  Interment will be at 3:00 P.M. in the Thatcher Cemetery.
