Karl Oler Searle

Our dear husband, father and grandfather, Karl Searle, 79, passed away January 23, 2008 at his home in Shelley, Idaho of a heart attack.  He was born in Shelley to Eli Clayson and Avilda Oler Searle.  He was raised in Shelley along with his four brothers and one sister.  Karl attended schools in Shelley and later graduated from Shelley High School.  After graduation Karl attended the University of Idaho majoring in engineering and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

On November 8, 1950 he married Jalna Jean Johannessen in the Idaho Falls Temple.  They had three children, Deborah, Reed, and Karlene.  He lived his entire life in Shelley farming with his four brothers and son.  Karl was a jack of all trades.  He could repair anything, build anything, and loved to work with wood.  He built many wood projects for his wife and children.  Karl was a very kind, patient, and loving father.  He never got angry or said an unkind word about anyone.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  He enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, hunting, going to grandkids ball games and relaxing at the cabin.  He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was proud of their accomplishments.

Karl is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Jalna, his three children, Deborah K. Hobbs of American Fork, Utah, Reed Searle of Shelley, and Karlene (Joe L.) Higham of Shelley, 15 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, a sister, Winona Thompson and a brother, Merwyn (Joyce) Searle.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Earl, Wendell, and Leon Searle.

At the request of Karl no funeral service will be held.  Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday January 26, 2008 at the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery with Military Rites by American Legion, Bingham Post 93 of Shelley.  The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 till 8:30 P.M. and Saturday 1:00 till 1:40 P.M. both at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley.
