Karma Messick

Karma Holland Messick, 91, of Shelley, passed away April 3, 2010 at her daughter’s home in Shelley.

Karma Holland Messick was born March 8, 1919 at Goshen Idaho to Joseph Bertie and Nellie Mae Shaw Holland.  She was the fourth of nine children.  She graduated from Shelley High School in 1937.  After graduation she worked in Mallory’s Dry Goods Store.

On September 18, 1941 she married William Robert Messick Jr. in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  She and her husband lived in the Shelley-Firth area all of their married lives.  She was a homemaker and enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  She enjoyed sewing, quilting, making wedding cakes, and cooking good food for all to enjoy.

She became a secretary for the Firth School District, retiring after nearly 20 years.  Karma has been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Saints holding many positions.  She also has been instrumental in organizing her class reunions over the years.

Karma and William were active with Senior Citizens in Shelley and were instrumental in having the center moved to its present location.  She served on the Board of Directors several times.

The Shell-Fir Credit Union was located in their home for nearly 10 years.  They both retired from this job in 1990 when William was 78 years old and Karma was 71 years old.

Karma is mother to Robert(Sandra) Messick of Byron Wyoming, Kathleen (Richard) Matheson and Wade (Julene) Messick of Shelley, and Bruce,(Terrie) of Firth, and the late Mark Messick.  She has 18 Grandchildren and 32 great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband William, 1 son Mark, and her parents, Joseph Bertie and Nellie Holland , six brothers, and two sisters.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday April 10, 2010 at the Firth Stake Center (823 North 675 East) in Basalt. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:30 till 8:00 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Saturday 9:30 till 10:45 A.M. at the Church.  Interment will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.
