Katherine Barnes Cannon

February 21, 1933 — July 29, 2017

Katherine Barnes Cannon, 84, of Shelley, passed away from natural causes on July 29, 2017 in her home in Shelley, Idaho.

Katherine was born February 21, 1933 to Herschel Barnes and Katherine Clarke Barnes. She joined an older brother Herschel and an older sister Marjorie whom she loved very much. The family lived on a small farm in Rupert, Idaho.

Katherine graduated from Rupert High School and attended BYU where she graduated in Home Economics. After teaching for several years, Katherine served a mission in the Southern States Mission. When she returned home, she met Alan M. Cannon Jr. They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on April 12, 1963.

After their marriage, they moved to Shelley, Idaho where Alan ran a small dairy farm. Katherine’s dream of being a mother was soon fulfilled. Anne was born a year after they were married. The twins, Sara and Nancy, were born 11 short months later. Karen joined the family 16 months after the twins were born. Four girls in two years with more fun on the way. A son, Seth, was born in 1969 and Kathy (Katherine) born in 1971 made their family complete. Katherine loved being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a steady influence for good in their lives.

Katherine was a builder of people. She loved everyone for who they were and lifted them in a quiet, kind manner. She often wrote poems for her children and grandchildren and loved to read. Those who knew her well appreciated her sense of humor and her great cooking!

Katherine was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served faithfully as a visiting teacher. Although, she did not like to be in the spotlight she held leadership callings in Primary, Young Womens and Relief Society. Her service was a blessing to many.

During her later years, she suffered from many physical ailments. In spite of her suffering, she was loving and kind to all.

Katherine will be missed by her devoted husband of 54 years Alan M. Cannon Jr. of Shelley. Daughter Anne (David) Schiess of Firth, Idaho; daughter Sara (Terry) Vance of Shelley, Idaho; Nancy (Paul) Scoresby of Ucon, Idaho; Karen (Aaron) Huber of Denver, Colorado; Seth (Jennifer) Cannon of Shelley, Idaho and Katherine Cannon of Shelley, Idaho.
