Kathryn Duncan

October 8, 1943 — April 17, 2025

With hearts full of love and gratitude, we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Kathryn Layne Duncan passed away on April 17, 2025 at home surrounded by family.

Kathy was born on October 8, 1943, in Logan, Utah, to Lester and Zora Layne. She grew up in Lewiston Utah and loved working on their small family farm. She loved to sing and dance and often joined her dad with his band in their community. After graduating high school, she attended Weber State College where she received her Certificate of Cosmetology. It was at Weber State that she met her first husband Douglas Anson Dameron. They were later married in the Logan Utah Temple on September 15, 1966. Together, they had five children: Todd, Troy, Lance, Layne, and Analisa. Though their marriage later ended in divorce, they remained close and were good friends and co-parents.

Kathy remained single for several years and greatly enjoyed this time shared with the other single adults attending many activities and dances. It was at one of these dances where she met the love of her life, Ron. On September 2, 1989, Kathy was sealed to Ronald Everett Duncan in the Idaho Falls Temple. Ron brought two children, Nathan and Brian, to this marriage which made them a family of nine. And with this new blended family there was much love and laughter. Ron brought great joy into her life, and they shared many cherished years together.

Kathy’s life was one of service, kindness, and unwavering faith. She served in many callings within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she and Ron were able to serve three missions together. Kathy loved to be a part of any activity that involved their children and grandchildren. She had a favorite child, but never publicly disclosed it because she knew her boys would feel bad. Her kindness, smile, laughter, and the occasional modified curse word will be greatly missed.

Kathy is survived by her loving husband, Ronald Everett Duncan of Idaho Falls, ID; her sons Nate (Stacey) Duncan of Layton UT; Brian (Charlotte) Duncan of Tremonton, UT; Todd Dameron of San Diego, CA; Troy (Kimber) Dameron of Rexburg, ID; Lance (Donna Selle) Dameron of Boise, ID; Layne (Lisa) Dameron of Reno, NV; and daughter Analisa (Eric) Decker of Idaho Falls, ID; 23 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lester Oral (Zora Marler) Layne; and siblings Leota (Henry) McKnight; Bud (Ruth) Layne; and Venna (Lamar) Oliverson.

A funeral service will be held in Kathy's honor at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2025 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints building at 4707 E. Iona Road, Iona, ID 83427. A viewing will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2025 and Saturday morning from 9:00-9:45 a.m. both at the church, where friends and family are invited to share memories and pay their respects.

We take comfort in knowing that Kathy is now reunited with loved ones who have gone before her and is at peace in the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
