LaKoda Kirk Stommel, 22 of Shelley passed away Sunday, June 16, 2014 with family and friends by his side at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of complications of a jet skiing accident.
He was born October 21, 1991 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Kirk and Christine Dickson Stommel. He was the middle child of three. He was raised and graduated high school from Shelley, Idaho in 2010 and attended 1 year of college at TVCC in Ontario, Oregon on a baseball scholarship.
At the time of his death he worked for Yellowstone Plastic in the mounting department, and Aeropostle. He got his dream job of coaching baseball for the Skyline High School Freshman Baseball Team. Koda loved his team and was respected by them. Koda showed his team the true meaning of baseball. When he was younger he would officiate basketball and baseball games for the younger kids in the Shelley sports program he was a mentor to them. He was always willing to take the extra time to mentor the younger boys in the skills of playing baseball.
Koda was active in sports. Football, Basketball and the love of Baseball and making new friends with everyone he met. He enjoyed extracurricular activities like golfing, fishing, hunting, and hanging with his friends. Once you had become his friend, you could except to be given a big hug or a hand shake from him every time. He was very outgoing and loved by everyone he meet, he would do anything and everything to help anybody.
Koda was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Koda is survived by his parents, Kirk and Christine Stommel of Shelley; his siblings Brittney (Mike) Kidman of Shelley, Thor Stommel of Shelley; nephew Ayden Kidman of Shelley; grandparents Joe and Gisela Dickson of West Jordan, Utah, Wanda Patterson of Idaho Falls, Byron and Sylvia Stommel of Idaho Falls. He is also survived by many aunts and uncles and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his niece Ema Leigh Kidman, and Great grandparents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the Shelley Stake Center (325 E Locust) with Bishop Boyd Price conducting.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 till 8:00 p.m. at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 West Oak Street, in Shelley and Saturday morning 9:30 till 10:40 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.
There is a memorial fund set up in LaKoda's name at any East Idaho Credit Union for anyone who feels they need to donate or help out the family.
