LaMond Cook, 99, was reunited with his loved ones on April 8, 2017.
LaMond was born at his parent’s homestead in Bryce Canyon, Utah on February 7, 1918. At the age of 9, he moved with his family to Shelley, because his father had a job building the Idaho Irrigation District.
He met his wife Dione Christensen though friends and soon decided to have a double wedding and they eloped with Gene and Lorainne Owens on October 19, 1939. LaMond and Dione lived across the road from her parents and LaMond started farming with Holger Christensen. In 1944, they moved to their farm on Foundry Road. Then in 1956, they moved to their present location and through the years remodeled their home to its present state to accommodate their family. He continued to farm for the next 51 years. LaMond and Dione had 5 children.
He loved fishing with his wife at Henry’s Lake, Palisades, and Clark Canyon and snowmobiling with his sons. He enjoyed riding in the Shelley Riding Russets where he competed posse events.
LaMond and Dione were married 50 years before Dione’s death in 1990. He then married Edith Nelson on July 3, 1991 in Lancaster, Minnesota. He spent his falls and springs in Idaho, summers in Minnesota, and winters in California.
For as long as we can remember, everyone enjoyed his biscuits and coffee every Sunday morning gathered around his kitchen table. This tradition has been upheld until the last Sunday before his death.
LaMond is survived by his son Dennis (Joan) Cook of Shelley, and daughter Carolee (Kent) Carlson also of Shelley; 12 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; and 12 great great grand children.
Preceded in death by parents, Richard and Ruth Cook, wife Dione Christensen, sons, Gary Cook, Darrell Cook and Danny Cook, granddaughter Tammy Cook and wife Edith Nelson.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 14, 2017 at Nalder Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:45 at Nalder Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.
