Larry Grant Kohler

August 27, 1943 — February 1, 2025

Larry Grant Kohler, 81, passed away on February 1, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and service that will continue to touch the lives of all who knew him. Words can hardly capture the fullness of his 81 years, but his life was truly a testament to dedication, hard work, and the incredible impact one person can have on their family, community, and the world around them.

Born on August 27, 1943, to Grant Alfred and Lila Marie Kohler, Larry was the eldest of five children. From the very beginning, he took on the responsibility of being a big brother with deep affection and commitment. His sister Jana, often reflected on how she could always count on her big brother Larry, to be there for her. His sense of loyalty and support was a hallmark of his entire life. His unwavering care for those he loved was evident in everything he did.

After graduating from Firth High School, he attended Salt Lake School of Electronics, which led to employment at Boeing both in Seattle and South Dakota where he contributed to the Minuteman Missile Project.

His greatest adventure began on February 21, 1964. He married the love of his life, Anna Ruth Cook. She was his world, his greatest joy, and his constant companion. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising a large family that became his pride and joy. With 11 children, Dad’s heart was full and he did a wonderful, unwavering job providing for his family. His strong work ethic ensured that we always had more than enough and made it possible for mom to stay home with us. Dad’s sacrifices and devotion to his family were immeasurable.

As a businessman, Dad poured his heart into every endeavor. While living in Las Vegas, Grandpa called and asked him to partner in a new business. They packed up and came home where they opened Kohler Building Supply in Firth Idaho. He later co-founded Steel Systems where he found joy in building, crafting, and making his mark in the community. Even after retirement, Dad’s love for creating never waned, and he continued to build homes alongside his sons, passing down his skills and knowledge.

Dad found peace and joy in the outdoors-whether it was hiking, fishing, or hunting, nature was his sanctuary. He and Mom spent countless hours at their cabin in Wolverine crafting a retreat for the whole family to enjoy.

In addition to his love for family and nature, he was a man of faith and service. He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and his testimony of the gospel guided his every step. He found great joy in working with the youth, particularly as a scoutmaster, but the most cherished role he had was as a missionary alongside his beloved wife. Their mission in Mesa, Arizona, brought them countless blessings and lifelong friendships.

Dad’s legacy lives on through his11 children, 47 grandchildren, and 37 great-grandchildren. His greatest joy was his family and he was a constant source of love and wisdom for each of them.

Dad leaves behind his loving wife Anna Ruth, his children: Holli (Loren) Lund, April (Kevin) Christensen, Cody (Beth) Kohler, Tiffany Kohler, Kaydon (Vaneen) Kohler, Cheryse (David) Hooste, Jesslyn (Brad) Speakman, Kasia Kohler, Shantell (Mark) Mendez, and Jade (Kylee) Kohler; his siblings: Jay, Paula, Lynette, and Jana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Grant Alfred and Lila Marie Kohler, and his son, Sheradon Kohler.

“He never looked for praises, He was never one to boast, He just went on quietly working for the ones that he loved most. His dreams were seldom spoken, His wants were very few, And most of the time, His worries went unspoken too. He was there, A firm foundation, Through all our storms of life. A sturdy hand to hold on to, In times of stress and strife. One of our greatest blessings, The man that we called Dad.”

Dad’s life was a life well-lived. His presence will be missed more than words can express. His love, service, and legacy will continue to shine through every life he touched.
