Lavor Gibbs McCrary, 91, of Blackfoot, passed away June 25, 2010 at Bingham Memorial Hospital.
He was born October 1, 1918 at Portage, Utah to John Chester and Cecil Elmina Gibbs McCrary. He attended school in Osgood and graduated from Ammon High School.
He served in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a member of the “Hump Pilot Association” flying numerous missions over the Himalayas. He also was a Golden Glove Boxer while in the Army.
On June 18, 1946 he married Alreta Ritchie at Butte, Montana. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Alreta passed away in 1990. He later married Betty Pope. They were divorced.
Lavor farmed in the Mud Lake, Monteview areas for many years. He also lived in Firth and Blackfoot. He sold Air Stream Trailers and held many other sales positions. He started McCrary remolding company where he worked along side his two sons.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served as first counselor in the Blackfoot Ninth Ward Bishopric.
He enjoyed writing poetry and fly fishing.
Lavor is survived by two sons, Kent (Mary Ann) McCrary & Brett (Velma) McCrary both of Blackfoot; one brother, Freeman (Betty) McCrary of Clearfield, UT; one sister, LaRue (Joseph) Bell of Idaho Falls; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Alreta, two brothers, Merlin McCrary and Glade McCrary, three sisters, Connie Connel, Beverly Monson, and Mona McCrary.Funeral Services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday June 29, 2010 at the Blackfoot East Stake Center (1289 Mount Putnam Drive) with Bishop Reed Packer from the Blackfoot Ninth Ward conducting. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 11:00 till 12:40 at the church. Interment will be in the Fielding Memorial Cemetery with military rites by Stewart Hoover Post 23. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley.
