Lila Marie Kohler passed away Sunday, November 27
th
at Fairwinds Assisted Living Center in Idaho Falls at the age of 85.
She was born December 16, 1925 to William Dewey Goodwin and Hulda Amelia Peterson in Logan, Utah. She was the fourth of eight children born to that union.
She married Grant Alfred Kohler August 22, 1942 in Preston, Idaho. They were later sealed together in the Logan, Utah temple. They made their home in Cache Valley, Utah where they farmed and started a family. After a few years of farming, they and their three children moved to the Goshen area just south of Shelley, Idaho where they lived for over forty years and added two more children to the family.
Lila was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many callings in the Goshen Ward and Shelley Stake. She helped her husband on the family farm and for a few years raised chickens so she could sell eggs to help pay the bills. She worked by his side in the lumber yard and the construction business during which time together they built many homes in the area.
After retiring, Grant and Lila moved to Overton, Nevada and they enjoyed the warm climate. After not too many years they realized they missed living closer to family so they sold their home and moved to Idaho Falls where they had t o readjust to the cold weather. For the many grandchildren it was wonderful to get to got to Grandma’s house and be spoiled by her. She and Grant had the special gift of making each grandchild feel as if they were the favorite. Lila’s passion was for her family. She saved every note or card each family member sent her over the years. She loved family pictures and family get togethers. As her grandchildren became teenagers and were at times at odds with their parents, Grandma was always there to take their side and make them feel better about the situation. She seemed to solve all their problems just by listening and having empathy.
Lila is survived by her five children: Larry (Ann Ruth) Kohler of Firth; Paula (Steve) Felts of Idaho Falls; Jay (Delene) Kohler of Idaho Falls; Lynette (Chris) Goode of Boise; and Jana Kohler of Pocatello; 24 grandchildren and 68 great grandchildren, one sister, Donna Burba of Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grand and six siblings.
