Lola Quinton Wheeler Kingsford, 89, passed away June 26, 2010 at Parkwood Assisted Living Center in Idaho Falls.
Lola was born January 16, 1921, the forth of five children of Oliver and Elvira Lords Quinton at Taylor, Idaho. She attended schools at Taylor, Shelley, Upper Presto and Crowley and then attended Ammon High School. The family was hard working farmers and Lola learned the arts of home making, sewing, cooking, baking bread, and churning butter. She also assisted in the gardening, and at an early age was thinning beets and picking potatoes.
Lola married Jesse Calvin Wheeler June 21, 1939 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They moved to Osgood where he worked for the Utah, Idaho Sugar Company. On July 1, 1944, Jesse and Lola were so happy to adopt an eighteen month old dark eyed son, Richard Eugene. Together, Jesse and Lola rented and operated a 60 acre farm on the Osgood project for three years. In 1946, they moved to Mackay where Jesse worked in logging. On May 23, 1950, Jesse was killed in a logging truck accident. A year later, Lola and Richard moved to Idaho Falls where she worked at Singer Sewing Co, and then for Challenge Creamery as a bookkeeper.
In September 1955, Lola re-married and returned to Mackay. The marriage failed after eight years and they were divorced. She adopted two boys and one girl from the second marriage. The two boys each decided to live in California with relatives. Judy remained with Lola and they moved back to Idaho Falls where Lola worked for Bernina Sewing Center and later in the credit department of Fred and Wayne’s OK Tires.
September 6, 1969 Lola married her great friend Loran O Kingsford and moved into his home in Pocatello, with his daughter Peggy. They remained in Pocatello until Loran retired in July 1974. They moved to Salmon, Idaho and then spent 3 months traveling to Alaska. Together, they traveled all across our great United States and some foreign lands. April 1997 they left Salmon and moved to Shelley, Idaho. Loran passed away February 15, 2004.
Lola was an active member of the LDS Church, holding many different positions. She enjoyed, sewing, canning and keeping up with Loran. Before leaving Salmon, she assisted her sister Beulah for two years in the care of their parents in Idaho Falls before they passed away.
