Louis Calvert Hanson

May 27, 1926 — April 5, 2007

Louis Calvert Hanson, age 80, passed away on April 5, 2007 from complications resulting from a sudden cardiac arrest.

Louis was born on May 27, 1926, in Shelley, Idaho to Louis Lorenzo and Mary Hortense Hanson. He grew up in Shelley where he attended school and graduated from Shelley High School.

After he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Louis married Bonita Crooks on November 12, 1946 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.  They made their home in Shelley where they lived until 1965 when they moved to Rexburg.  In 1972, they returned to their Shelley home where they have since resided.

Louis worked at the post office, then went to work for Utah Power and Light for many years until retiring in 1983.  After his retirement, Louis and Bonita owned and operated Bonita's Rubber Stamps in Shelley.  He was loved and admired by the community.

One of his most prominent talents was his musical abilities.  He created his own dance orchestra, involving all of his children. He arranged most of his music and had a keen ear for pitch and rhythm.

Louis was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and had a strong testimony.  He served in many callings, including scout master and ward financial clerk. He was also an Eagle Scout.

His greatest joy in life was his family. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  He loved working in his large, organic garden with them.

Louis is survived by his wife, Bonita; his children: Carl (Bonnie) Hanson of Rupert, Idaho; Vanell (Ronnie) Stoddard of West Jordan, Utah; Rosemary (Thomas) Brown and Charles (Kristy) Hanson, both of Chester, Idaho; Nancy Hanson and Clifford Hanson, both of Salt Lake City, Utah; Emily (Lorin) Glauser of South Jordan, Utah; Merry Hanson of Ammon, Idaho; Barbara (Garren) Durtschi of Pleasant Grove, Utah; 37 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Darrell (JoAnn) Hanson of Riverton, Utah and Karen (Blair) Likes of Shelley, Idaho.  He is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Marie; a son, Milan; his parents, a sister, Mary June, and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Shelley LDS Stake Center (325 E. Locust), with Bishop Barry Hanson officiating. The family will visit with friends Monday from 7 - 8:30 p.m. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 W. Oak) in Shelley and Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. - 12:40 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery. Military Rites will be preformed by the Stewart Hoover Post #23 from Blackfoot.
