Marceil Kelley Peterson, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2019 at the age of 80. She was born to Floyd George Kelley and Fern Dial Kelley on May 12, 1939 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She grew up in Shelley, Idaho and is the 7th child in a family of 9 children. In her youth, she had a favorite Shetland pony named Lightning, was a cheerleader, loved playing softball, and played coronet in the high school marching band.
She was the beloved wife of Henry Val Peterson, from Taylor, Idaho. They married on August 14, 1957 in the Idaho Falls Temple and were married for 61 years. Marceil and Val, have 6 children; Kelli Hooker (Jerry), Eugene, Oregon; Jodi Sandberg (Brad), Grantsville, Utah; Lori Hurst (Gary); Jill Alvord (Mark), Riverton, Utah; Jeff Peterson (Penny), Tucson, Arizona and Marci Peterson (Patti Palagi), Fort Collins, Colorado. They started their life together in Salt Lake City, Utah and they moved to Logan, Utah in 1967.
Marceil was a busy wife and mother of six children, active in the LDS church working often with young people, volunteered at her children’s schools, PTA and civic organizations. She loved gardening, baking, listening to and leading music, sewing and quilting, attending college basketball and football games, snowmobiling and camping with her family.
Marceil started college at age 40 and graduated from Weber State College with a degree in Nursing. She started her nursing career at Logan Regional Hospital and was a new born/neonatal intensive care nurse.
After raising their family in Logan, Marceil and Val moved to Tempe, Arizona. Marceil loved the new adventure and made several new lifelong friends. She continued to work as a pediatric/newborn nurse in Tempe clinics and Chandler Regional Hospital.
Marceil and her husband loved to travel and favorite trips were to England, Norway, Ireland, Italy, China, Peru, Mexico, Kenya, Hong Kong, Fiji and Tahiti, Egypt, Hawaii, New England, and Canada. Their children have scattered and they loved to visit children and grandchildren in Utah, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado and Arizona.
While living in Chandler, Marceil and Val enjoyed serving as temple workers at the Mesa Temple and served as missionaries in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Baltimore Maryland Mission.
In 2012, Marceil was diagnosed with a slow but progressive form of Alzheimer’s disease. Following the diagnosis, Marceil wanted to move closer to one of her children and moved to Tucson, Arizona living near her son, Jeff and his family.
Marceil is survived by her husband, Val; 5 of her children; Kelli, Jodi, Jill, Jeff and Marci, her brothers, Norman, Karl and Kendall, 12 grandchildren; Jeffrey Hooker, Jordan Hooker, Darin Sandberg, Jessica Hurst, Ryan Hurst, Derek Alvord, Trevor Alvord, Zachary Alvord, Jake Peterson, Jensen Peterson, Trey Peterson and Scott Peterson, and 1 great grandchild, Oswin Hooker. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters; Marilyn Kelley Fielding, Fern and Faun Kelley, brothers, Neil and Gerald, her daughter, Lori Peterson Hurst and granddaughter, Rachael Hurst.
Funeral services will be at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints West Stake Center, 3530 West Magee Road, Tucson, Arizona on Thursday, May 30th at 10 am. Friends are invited to a viewing and visiting with the family at 9:00 am the church prior to the funeral service. Adair Funeral Home in Tucson Arizona will provide funeral arrangements.
Marceil will be buried in Taylor Idaho. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 1st at Noon at the Taylor Cemetery, 720 E 129 South, Idaho Falls, Idaho. Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley Idaho will provide burial services.
