Marilyn Petersen Dye

Our wonderful mother, Marilyn Petersen Dye, passed away on August 3, 2013 from complications due to a bleeding ulcer. She was a young 76 years old, having had her birthday just a week before.

She was born on July 28, 1937 in Pocatello, Idaho to Arthur and Nellie Petersen. She grew up in Moreland, Idaho and graduated from Snake River High School where she led the baton twirling team.

She attended Ricks College and studied elementary education. While at Ricks College, she met Calvin Dye at a New Year’s Eve Dance being held in Blackfoot. They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 30, 1957. They lived in Rigby, Wapello, and Logan, Utah while they finished their schooling at Utah State University. They made their permanent home in Firth.

Marilyn loved music and was well known for her exceptional singing, organ, and piano playing skills. She touched thousands of lives with her musical gifts. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, needlework, teaching piano and voice, and traveling.

Marilyn was active in the LDS church and served in many church positions including Primary President, Relief Society President, Primary Teacher as well as Choir Director, Organist, Chorister, and Pianist. She enjoyed working most recently with the young men and young women’s programs in teaching them music.

Marilyn taught school for a number of years, first teaching Kindergarten and then later, after raising her children, teaching 2

grades at AW Johnson Elementary in Firth.

After she retired, she served alongside her husband in the New York, New York South Mission and enjoyed their service on Long Island. She also worked in the Idaho Falls Temple for five years after her husband’s death in 2006.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Calvin, and her precious mother, Nellie May Clark Petersen. She is survived by her seven children: Lori Dye of Rexburg; Neil Dye of Marshall Islands; Deanne Dye of Firth; Kimberly (Jim) Wong of American Fork, UT.; Alan Dye (Thomas Knoble) of San Francisco, CA.; Amy (Jared) Brazier of Orem, UT.; and Paul (Virginia) Dye of Rexburg. She also has 15 grandchildren of whom she was exceptionally proud.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 9, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Firth LDS Ward Building (744 N. 600 E.). The family will receive friends Thursday evening, August 8, 2013, from 6:30 till 8:00 p.m. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Friday morning 8:30 till 9:40 a.m. at the Firth Ward building. Interment will be at the Firth Cemetery.

The immediate family wishes to thank all of mom’s many friends and extended family, and express our gratitude for the many kindnesses and love that was shown to our dear mother. We also wish to thank all of the medical personnel that took such good care of her this past while.
