Marvin Lee Trent, 85, passed away at the Gables in Blackfoot on June 19, 2017, following a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer's.
Marvin was born January 29, 1932, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Benjamin and Addie Trent, and he was later joined by two sisters, Joanna and Kathryn. His family moved to Twin Falls, Idaho when he was young and he grew up there. After graduating from High School, he enlisted in the Air Force in January 1951 and after basic training served overseas at Nouasseur Air Force Base in Morocco, North Africa, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant and receiving an honorable discharge July 23, 1954.
He moved to Pocatello, Idaho after his service in the Air Force, to attend diesel mechanic school, and it was there he met Alaura Louise Mitchell. They were married on September 15, 1956.
Marvin worked hard all his life and while it was primarily as a mechanic he also drove truck, welded, did construction, maintained processing equipment, did security work, and farm work. He enjoyed his little corner of paradise in Basalt, gardening, raising all kinds of animals, and raising his family. He and his family moved to Hermiston, Oregon briefly and also spent several years in Hanna, Wyoming, but always came back to his home in Basalt. He was as dependable as they come when it came to his job.
Marvin joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1973 while living in Basalt and was sealed to Louise and his children in 1975. He served faithfully in many church callings.
He also loved the outdoors, especially when he was younger, and took his family camping, fishing and hunting for many years. However, as his family grew, the responsibilities of caring for a large family made working to support them a higher priority. He supported his wife and children in all of their pursuits, even if it meant holding down multiple jobs to make it happen. He would always help anyone who was in need, and was very willing to help his family when called upon.
Marvin was preceded in death by his father, mother, sister, Kathryn, and two children, Deena and Lorin. In 2009, his sweetheart Louise passed away and this started a lonely period of life for him.
He is survived by his; children, Terri (Alan Williamson), Joel (Ilene) Trent, Delwyn Trent, Kristi (Mayo) McCready, Arden (Tammy) Trent, Kendall (Liza) Trent, Cameron (Jodi) Trent, 15 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017, at the Firth Stake Center, 823 N 675 E, in Basalt. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:40 a.m. prior to services at the church. Interment will be at Basalt Cemetery with military rites by David B. Bleak Post 93.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff at the Gables in Blackfoot and Hands of Hope Hospice for their tender care, service, and compassion. He loved getting their hugs and smiles during a difficult time.
