Mary Lou Young

July 11, 1931 — October 6, 2015

Mary Lou Savage Young passed away October 6, 2015 in Blackfoot, Idaho.

Born July 11, 1931 mom grew up and came of age during the depression and World War Two era. The necessities of life were hard work and a good team or two of horses.

But there was also time for athletics which her and her brothers excelled in. She especially loved basketball and was team captain of the Hamer High School Girls Basketball team playing against Leadore, Roberts, Arco, Lima, Montana and others. She was also quite adept at tennis, regularly drubbing the boys on the new school tennis court.

Hamer and Roberts consolidated schools so she spent her senior year at Roberts graduating in 1949. She went on to ISU for a time and finished her formal education graduating from Stevens-Henager College in Utah.

There were times when she couldn’t find a job in her trained profession, however that didn't stop her from going out and picking potatoes, peaches, cherries or tomatoes while living in Utah.

She was only too glad to take her children along to gain from the experience as well.

Mary Lou went on to work for the IRS and then the Social Security Administration for many years until she retired.

Her big passion in life were her friends and family. She never forgot a birthday and her children and grandchildren could always expect a card from Mom or Grandma.

She also loved the Denver Broncos, she missed watching very few games the last 30 years.

She is survived in life by her children, Bob Young, Jim and Sandy Young, Brett and Karen Young and Dan and Linda Lou Schauwecker, 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nephi W and Marion R Savage, early residents of Hamer. Her brothers, Neal, Frank and Dave Savage, her half-brothers, Bobby and Norman Janes and half-sisters, Snookie Janes and Betty McWilliams, husband Blaine H Young and her grandson, Jacob Colbo.
