Michael Lynn Nelson

Michael Lynn Nelson, 56, of Basalt, passed away May 6, 2008, at his home of natural causes.  

He was born in Idaho Falls to Francis “Buck” Nelson and Rhea Mae Whitmill on March 22, 1952.  He was the oldest of five children.  He graduated from Firth High School in 1971.  

Mike met Kathy, the love of his life, in June of 1979 and married her and her three children in April of 1980 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.  Mike and Kathy were blessed with three more children over the following nine years.  

Mike worked in various professions until his disability in the early 80’s.   He was a gentle giant, who loved his family, and was a constant tease. 

Mike’s life was always centered around his parents, his siblings, his wife and his children.  

He is survived by his wife, Kathy of Basalt; his children, Lori (Scott) Schneider of Idaho Falls, Tina (David) Justesen of Nez Perce, Nathan (Misty) Collins of Idaho Falls, Michael F Nelson, Michelle Nelson, and Mark Nelson all of Basalt;  mother, Rhea Mae Whitmill Nelson of Basalt; brothers, Brent (Robin) Nelson of Basalt; and Blaine (Maeleen) Nelson; sisters, Linda Hooper and Janet (Jose) Garza all of Idaho Falls; and 10 grandchildren.   He was preceded in death by his father.  

Although we sorrow at his passing, we rejoice in the knowledge that he is home with his Heavenly Parents and is no longer in pain.  

Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday May 9, 2008 at the Firth Stake Center (823 North 675 East) in Basalt with Bishop Samuel Walker conducting. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 till 8:30 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Friday morning 10:00 till 10:40 at the church.  Interment will be in the Basalt Cemetery.
