Monte Dewayne Owens

Monte DeWayne Owens, 82, of Shelley, Idaho, passed away October 26, 2015 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Dad was born November 27, 1932 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Reed Dewain Owens and Nelda Montaque Owens.

He was the oldest of four children. His brothers are Jesse Max, Dale Blaine, David Reed and one sister, Mary Gayle.

Dad started school at Ucon Elementary, in Ucon Idaho.

Later they moved to Shelley, Idaho, where he graduated from Shelley High School in 1950.

While living in Shelley he met the love of his life, the sister of his best friend, when she was only ten years old, Dad was twelve at the time.

They were married on April 6, 1953, after being engaged for ten days.

Dad had got his orders to report to boot camp in two weeks to Camp Roberts, California.

After serving in the Army for almost 2 years in France, he was honorably discharged in 1955.

Dad worked for Blackfoot Motors as a mechanic and for Idaho Potato Growers in Shelley, as a bookkeeper and a foreman.

Then he went to work for R.T. French Company as a mechanic and for Pillsbury, retiring in November 1994.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Dad loved the mountains, going fishing at Island Park Reservoir and hunting in the Brockman Creek area. Dad also enjoyed spending time with the grandkids, seeing what kind of trouble he could get them in.

He is survived by his wife, Janice of Shelley; children, Carol (Mike) Mueller of Shelley; Darrel (Teresa) Owens of Shelley; Terry (Neil) Anderson of Shelley; Kristine (Steve) Pedersen of Blackfoot; Laura (Mike) Tracy of Idaho Falls; Tish (Lonnie) Peterson of Idaho Falls; 20 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jesse Max Owens.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 30, 2015 at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley. The family will meet with friends Thursday evening from 6:00 till 7:30 P.M. and Friday morning from 10:00 till 10:45 A.M. both at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery with Military Rites by the David B. Bleak Post #93 of Shelley.
