Nelda Gene Fillmore

Nelda Gene Peterson Fillmore, 89, of Shelley, beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully, June 5, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 3, 1924 in Kimberly, Idaho to Carson and Mabel Mabey Peterson. She was the oldest of four children. It was while Nelda was in Burley, Idaho that she met the love of her life, Ray Laurel Fillmore. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple for time and all eternity on June 1, 1945. Saturday, June 1, 2013, marked their 68th wedding anniversary.

Her childhood years were spent in Kimberly, Idaho. She graduated from Kimberly High School in 1942. She attended Albion Teaching Academy in Albion, Idaho and graduated on May 31, 1944 and furthered her education by earning a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Idaho State University.

Early in her teaching career she taught in Hazelton, Burley, and Idaho Falls. But it was in Shelley, in her 2nd grade classroom at Goodsell Elementary, that her love of learning inspired so many. She spent 26 years teaching for the Shelley School District, retiring in 1986. After retiring Nelda and Ray spent many winters in Apache Junction, Arizona and St. George Utah.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints and served in various callings. She loved to serve others and was devoted and faithful in all she did. Her talents and hobbies were cooking, gardening, traveling, shopping, and painting. One of her greatest achievements was that she created a warm and loving home, a place where she enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and always making others feel welcome.

Nelda is survived by her loving husband, Ray Fillmore of Shelley; children, Linda Black of Shelley; Debbie (Mike) Carter of Shelley; and Ray (Janet) Fillmore Jr. of South Jordan, Utah. She has 11 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Lois, and two brothers, Larry and Richard.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 10, 2013, at the Shelley 3rd/5th Ward Chapel (513 South Park). The family will meet with friends Sunday evening, June 9, from 6:00 till 8:00 p.m. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 W. Oak) in Shelley and Monday morning at 9:30 till 10:40 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.
